REMARKS:
After playing football in high school and attending community college in
Orlando, Fla., Chief Warrant Officer David S. Williams joined the Army
reserves, and later signed on for active duty.
Williams, 30, was captured when
his Apache helicopter went down during heavy fighting in Karbala,
about 60 miles southwest of Baghdad. The
government declared Williams and the other Apache crew member, Chief Warrant
Officer Ronald D. Young Jr., 26, prisoners of war after they were shown on
Iraqi state television March 24, apparently uninjured.
David Williams Sr. said he was upset when he saw images of his son on Iraqi
television, but felt that the footage served as proof that his son was still
alive. David has a 2-year-old son and a 5-month-old daughter.
